Uncommon Origins to the Prostatic Artery

In less than 1% of men, the prostatic artery will arise from the external iliac artery rather than from the internal iliac artery. This uncommon origin is recognized easily by the absence of blood supply to the prostate from the internal iliac angiogram. Another clue is the absence an obturator artery when imaging the internal iliac artery. Here is great example of this finding on the left and the normal appearance on the right.
